Collection: Kilim - Handmade, a labor of love

is an Anatolian saying that refers to the devotion with which a kilim was woven.

The weaving process requires a lot of experience, patience and time. A single kilim could take several weeks or months to be fully woven, depending on its size and complexity.

The motifs are diverse and have different meanings depending on the region and the family or nomadic tribe.

A traditionally woven motif is, for example, the "Eli Belinde / hands on hips" motif, which is often found on kilims. The motif consists of a stylized representation of a female figure, often interpreted as the "divine mother".

The figure is surrounded by various geometric patterns and other motifs. The figure is often depicted with outstretched arms, hands on the hips or on the belly. It is believed that the figure represents fertility and protection, but it also serves as a symbol of the strength, wisdom and capability of the women of the region.
