Anatolian Soul No. 107

A special vintage Kilim from the Mut region in Southern Anatolia, approx. 265 x 142 cm. For decades, the Mut region was one of the main settlement areas for nomads in Turkey. There are only a very few nomadic families left in the region who still spend every summer in their Yayla (high plateau). Large kilims have not been woven for a long time. People mainly live from sheep and goat breeding.

This kilim was hand-woven with hand-spun sheep's wool according to ancient tradition.

A unique piece, presumably woven by two nomadic women from a family in the Mut region as a wedding dowry or for their own use.

The kilim was woven with the following motifs:

Pitrak / Burdock.

✿ A plant that sticks to people's clothing and animal hair.
It protects against evil eyes and is a symbol of abundance and prosperity.

✿ Elibelinde: The kilim is framed by the Eli belinde motif (hands on hips). A symbol of femininity and motherhood.
The arms of the figure are represented by two inwardly pointing hooks, the woman's body by a triangle or a rhombus, her head usually by an inverted rhombus.

✿ Nazar (Eye): It protects against evil glances and thoughts.

We estimate the age of this kilim to be approx. 30 - 50 years.
