This unique kilim was elaborately hand-woven by a Kurdish weaver using hand-spun wool approximately 40 years ago in the Van region of Eastern Anatolia.
The southeastern region of Anatolia has been inhabited by nomads and semi-nomads for centuries. The base color for their beautiful flatweaves is usually a dark blue.
The central motif of the Kurdish kilim is the "Eli belinde" or "mother of goddesses" figure.
✿ Elibelinde refers to a widespread motif on flatweaves that, in various forms, resembles a female figure. It stands for female strength and fertility.
✿ Nazar. It protects against evil glances and thoughts.
