Konya kilim 188 x 110 cm. Wool.
🧿 The hand-spun yarn of the beautiful kilim from Konya was dyed with genuine natural/root dyes. Pure virgin wool, very finely woven for personal use, probably as a bride's dowry for marriage.
The yarn was dyed by a very experienced dyer. Creating such a harmonious color composition with pastel shades from natural dyes is an art in itself.
Motifs we can identify:
The kilim is dominated horizontally by the Tarak (comb) motif, which was often woven for the founding of a family or the wish to have a child.
Four vertically arranged Nazarlik / Bereket (blessing / fertility) motifs protect the family from evil eyes and envious thoughts of others.
We estimate its age to be approximately 20 - 30 years.
